" Class News Letter" From: Mrs. Faber, Mrs. Garrett, Mrs. Craft and Mrs. Muhammad

The school year is quickly coming to an end! This year seems to be going by faster than any other. It’s hard to believe in a few short weeks summer vacation will be upon us. Even though the children maybe ready for summer, they continue to learn new and exciting things every day.

Right now in our science area, we have been busy watching caterpillars and ladybug larva. We can hardly wait to see what will happen next. We are also learning the different parts of invertebrates. We are working on the parts of a butterfly, starfish, lobster, crab, and grasshopper to name a few. We have also been learning about the life cycles of the frog, butterfly, lady bug and chick.

In Math we have been working on learning numbers, addition, subtraction, measurement, recognizing and counting money, fractions and skip counting.

In our Language area, we have enjoyed seeing children learning their sounds, complete a sound booklet, starting to sound out words and starting to read books. Each child is always very excited when they have accomplished a new task. Children have also been working on their writing skills. They are very proud when they can write their name.

Geography is the area where the children continue to work on their maps. The United States map is the most used map at this point of the year. Some of the Kindergartners have been working on learning the countries of Europe, Africa and Asia. This is a big accomplishment for them. We continue to work on learning the months of the year and days of the week in English and Spanish. Some children have been working on telling time.

As part of Earth Day we have been learning about keeping our Earth clean and making sure we do our part. We learned about recycling, reuse and reduce. We also learned about saving electricity and water.

We would like to thank you as parents for sharing your children with us during this school year. We have enjoyed getting to know each one and watching each child grow physically, emotionally and academically.

"Winter in Mrs Martinez's Class Lots of Learning with Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Beach, and Ms. Bradley"

What does Mrs. Martinez say . . . “Think about what you are doing. Be responsible. Make the right choice.” Thinking is very important! We need to think about what we are doing, why we are doing it, and how we are doing it. We need to make good choices and do what is right. Choices we make affect other people. When we make a bad choice there is a consequence and that consequence should teach us not to make our mistake again. We talk about what is happening and always need to treat one another with kindness and respect. Please consistently reinforce with your child our classroom rules of keeping our hands to ourselves, speaking with an inside voice, and walking through the classroom.

It is amazing how time passes so quickly. One season begins and then ends as a new one begins. The frigid air of winter has changed to the warm breeze of spring. Each time we celebrate a friend’s birthday we reinforce how time passes and never stops. We never stop growing, never stop learning, never stop observing changes all around us. We have been observing and learning a lot:

During the months of March, April, and May we focused on: Staying on task, –- focusing on our work and working quietly, -- Staying positive, –- attitude is everything!, -- Working together, -– We are a team and each person must do their part to make things work, -- Reviewing recognition and spelling of our first, middle, and last names and knowing our birthdates, telephone numbers, and addresses. Yes, we continually review this information. Repetition is how we ensure that things learned stay with us and are known even better. -- Reviewing the 12 months of the year and the 7 days of the week in English and Spanish. When working on our calendar each day we talk about yesterday, today, and tomorrow in English and Spanish., -- Observing changes in our outdoor environment with trees, animals, and temperature., -- Learning all parts of our body in Spanish, -- Learning fruits in Spanish, -- Dinosaurs – extinct reptiles that were herbivores, carnivores, or omnivores, -- The eight planets of our solar system, -- Identifying and strengthening our 5 senses, -- Learning sign language – letters, our name, and days of the week, -- The season of Spring – we are so happy to see the daffodils and tulips blooming outside our classroom windows and birds returning from the south. We have been filling the bird feeder again. We had fun planting and tasting sunflower seeds and planting petunia seeds that we will take home and care for all throughout the summer. -- Continuing to recycle and show respect for our Earth – We enjoyed Earth Day and were so happy that what people do on Earth Day is what we do everyday!, -- Observing the life cycles of a caterpillar and ladybug – we were so excited to see the transformations to butterfly and ladybird beetle. Each day changes occurred and we were amazed at how quickly these insects looked different from their original form., -- Preparing for the Variety Show – We loved the songs we sang together about our beautiful faces and how together we can change the world. If you want to hear the original song and see the video go to www.togetherwecanchangetheworld.com. The video is heart-warming and the song is beautifully sung by a 12 year old girl and the SIFA Choir of Africa., -- Stretching and meditating each day, -- Throwing and catching a ball.

Read with your child as often as you can. It’s very important!!!!! Continue to reinforce our classroom rules all summer long. These rules aren’t just for our classroom, they are for life . . . thinking before acting and speaking, and showing kindness and respect to everyone and everything.

We thank you so much for an amazing year of learning and growing together. We have enjoyed every day. Each day is a new experience and each moment an “Aha” or “Wow” or “I did it”. It is so exciting to see the blossoming and transformations of your children as they grow and develop in so many ways. Thank you for your support and team work. Together we made a huge difference in our children’s lives!

Spring Time Fun by: Ms. Bradley In the class of Ms. Bradley, Mrs. Beach and Ms. Sanchez

As we enter the final month of the school year I think, “Wow, where has the time gone. It seems like the school year just flew right by!” I want to start by thanking all of the parents that were able to make it to classroom observations. I know you enjoyed watching your child learn and work in the classroom and the children definitely enjoyed having you here. As we entered spring, the children were really excited by the change in the weather. Although they liked to have snowball fights and play in the snow, they love to run around outside under “Mister Golden Sun”. They were all so eager to have all the animals who either hibernated or migrated south during the winter return. In April we had our 6th annual Variety Show and it was a big success. The children prepared for months with hard work and dedication and in the end it all showed, the children perform beautifully and we were so proud of them.

In the classroom we welcomed “caterpillars and ladybug larvae”. The children enjoyed learning about the different stages that both of these insects go through to become butterflies and ladybugs. We discuss the growth of the insects daily and the children were very excited when the caterpillars made there cocoons, we are very eager to see the butterflies emerge from there cocoon. It brings me great joy to see how much the children have grown since the start of the school year. We will continue to learn new and exciting things in the classroom.

Progress reports will be sent home on May 25th. I hope to see you all at the end of school picnic on May 26th. Congratulations to all our kindergarteners and everyone on a great school year. Parents’ thank you for all your hard work and dedication through out this year. Have a Fun & Safe Summer!

"Kindergarten Scoop" - March, April and May Issue By: Mrs. Ziolkowski & Mrs. Rudolph

This school year is quickly coming to an end. However, the children are still very busy reading doing math and science.

We have been busy learning about dinosaurs. We learned what they ate, where they lived and how the looked and moved. We made a dinosaur book and graphed our favorite dinosaur. The children also enjoyed a dinosaur show and tell.

In science we are learning about plants and seeds. They were amazed to see radish seeds germinate, wrapped in a paper towel in a plastic bag. We also planted different seeds to observe their roots, stems and leaves.

Three toads came to visit our classroom so that we could learn about amphibians. The children loved observing them.

Our kindergarten children have worked very hard this year. Their love for learning is evident. They have not only grown physically but emotionally and academically. I am proud of each of them and I will miss them all. I would like to thank all our parents for sharing their children with us and for their constant support.

Thank you for all the delicious treats and gifts to celebrate Teacher Appreciation!

Congratulations to our kindergarten students who read all six months for our reading program. A special pizza dinner was enjoyed by the students and their families. This was the largest group I’ve ever had.
